A brilliant day for the

Hodder Valley!!!

What a glorious day we all had at this year's May Queen Festival!  The sun was shining as the children from the retiring Dunsop Bridge retinue and the incoming Lane Ends/Tosside/Slaidburn retinue, patiently gathered outside St. Andrew's Church.

Starting with a wonderful service by Rev Jonathan Oldfield, the resident year 6 school children from Brennand's Endowed and Thorneyholme primary schools were each given a dictionary by Mrs Anthea Hodson, to mark the end of their time at primary.  After the service, the talented Slaidburn Silver Band led the procession through Slaidburn, to Rock House where Mr and Mrs Kerry Hodson gave each child from the local schools a monetary gift on behalf of the Slaidburn Estate.  The retiring May Queen Madeleine Hayes and the incoming May Queen Sadie Wilson led their retinues to Slaidburn Village Hall for the parade.  Mrs Jean McNamee proudly crowned Sadie Wilson as this years May Queen.  Festivities continued with maypole dancing provided by Brennand's Endowed Primary School.  The Slaidburn Archive held a wonderful display of the May Queen throughout the years.  The 5-a-side football competition was won by Thorneyholme's Super Strikers, with runners up being Brennand's Slaidburn United team.  The incredibly competitive childrens and adult races then followed, ending the day with the messy egg catching.  There were many winners of our very popular raffle!  Each winner has been notified and thank you to each person who bought a ticket.
